NSS Unit NLUJA

The National Service Scheme unit of NLUJA was established in 2019 post a capacity building of youth on leadership and personality development through life skills organized by Government of India Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Regional Directorate of NSS, Guwahati from 18th to 22nd November 2019 which was attended by the core committee members and Faculty-in-Charge, Dr. Mayengbam Nandakishwor Singh. Ever since, the unit has been regularly conducting activities to engage the student fraternity in consonance with NSS motto “Not Me But You”, which reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for self-less service. Towards this end, every member of the NLUJA NSS unit strives live unto the motto in the everyday life and conduct through objectives of NSS:

i. Understand the community in which they work

ii. Understand themselves in relation to their community

iii. Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem- solving

iv. Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility

v. Utilize their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems

vi. Develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities

vii. Gain skills in mobilizing community participation

viii. Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes

ix. Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters

x. Practice national integration and social harmony

Activities and Events

On 27th March 2025, a healthcare assistance camp was organized under the aegis of the National Service Scheme (NSS), NLUJAA, at Mother Old Age Home, Sijubari, Hatigaon. The objective of the camp was to promote basic health awareness and provide essential healthcare services to the elderly residents of the home. Blood pressure (BP) check-ups, sugar level tests, and blood sample collection were conducted for further analysis. Two doctors and nurses were present to offer consultations and address any health concerns. Additionally, a nutritious lunch was made available to the residents during the camp.

To commemorate the global Earth Hour, the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit, in collaboration with the Centre for Environmental Law, Advocacy & Research (CELAR) and the World Wide Fund (WWF), organized a Nature Walk on 22nd March 2025. The event took place on the Agyathuri Hill and aimed to foster environmental awareness, promote sustainable living, and encourage participants to reconnect with nature. The event featured educational talks on the importance of preserving natural habitats, with a focus on local flora and fauna. By encouraging direct interaction with nature, the Nature Walk aimed to inspire participants to adopt eco-friendly practices and deepen their understanding of the vital role of environmental conservation in sustaining life on Earth.

On 17th March 2025, the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of NLUJA took a pledge to observe Earth Hour, committing to be water-wise and switch off lights on 22nd March 2025, from 08:30 PM to 09:30 PM. This initiative, in collaboration with the World Wide Fund (WWF), aimed to raise awareness about the need for energy conservation and environmental sustainability. Esteemed faculty members were present to support and encourage students to participate. The event highlighted the significance of collective action in addressing global environmental challenges and promoting a more sustainable future for all.

The National Service Scheme (NSS), Unit, National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam (NLUJAA), in collaboration with the Central Bureau of Communication, Guwahati, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, commemorated Samvidhan Diwas 2024 with a three-day Integrated Communication and Outreach Programme (ICOP) from 25th to 27th November 2024. Inspired by the leaders' ideals, the initiative reinforced the importance of ecological balance and sustainable living, encouraging youth participation in environmental conservation.
