About Course
The LL.M. programme offered by the National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam (NLUJAA), in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), is a distinctive postgraduate degree in Corporate Law and Management. The programme has been conceptualised in response to India's growing demand for highly skilled corporate law professionals, particularly those equipped with practical expertise in representing clients before specialised adjudicatory and regulatory forums. These include the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT), Debt Recovery Tribunal (DRT), Debt Recovery Appellate Tribunal (DRAT), Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), Securities Appellate Tribunal (SAT), Competition Commission of India (CCI), Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority (IEPFA), Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (B3BI), National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA) as well as the High Courts, the Supreme Court of India, and other regulatory bodies.
India currently faces a significant shortage of corporate lawyers equipped with advanced training and hands- on exposure to complex corporate, commercial, and regulatory matters. In this context, there is an urgent need to cultivate a robust ecosystem of professionally skilled legal experts capable of effectively supporting law firms, consultancies, regulatory authorities, corporate entities, and academia. This LL.M. programme is designed to bridge this critical gap by integrating rigorous legal education with managerial insights, policy- oriented analysis, and strong practical orientation. Designed as a specialised and future-oriented programme, the LL.M. in Corporate Law and Management equips students with advanced knowledge, professional competence, and analytical skills required to navigate the dynamic and evolving landscape of corporate regulation in India. Through a carefully structured curriculum, students engage with core theoretical foundations, practical applications, and in-depth case studies in areas such as corporate governance, regulatory compliance, corporate restructuring, and evolving regulatory frameworks.
The programme follows a dual-campus model, enabling students to benefit from the academic strengths of two premier national institutions. The first year of the programme is conducted at the NLUJAA campus in Guwahati, where students focuses on mandatory courses such as Research Methodology, Law and Justice in a Globalized World, and Fundamentals of Corporate Law, alongside specialised subjects including Finance, Corporate Governance, Corporate Restructuring, Insolvency, and Valuation. Collectively, these courses are designed to build a strong academic, analytical, and professional foundation for advanced study and practice in corporate law. The curriculum emphasizes experiential learning through project work, presentations, and intensive classroom interactions, including specialised research-based projects. Students will be mentored by dedicated experts who will provide continuous guidance on emerging regulatory developments in Corporate and allied laws, ensuring that students remain updated with the latest legal and policy frameworks.
The second year of the programme is conducted at the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), Manesar, an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India. This phase of the programme places strong emphasis on advanced and specialised courses, including Commercial Mediation, Trade and Investment Laws, Intellectual Property Rights and Competition Law, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG), Securities Market Regulation, Corporate Taxation, and Banking Laws.
The Programme fosters a holistic teaming journey that equips students for successful careers in Corporate Law and Management, while simultaneously immersing them in the rich cultural idiversity and dynamic professional landscape of India's Northeastern region.
Eligibility and Selection Criteria
ELIGIBILITY
- LL.B. Degree or any other Bachelor Degree in Law with a minimum minimum of fifty percent (50%) marks or its equivalent grade (forty five percent (45%) marks or its equivalent grade in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST categories).
- Candidates appearing for their final year examination of the qualifying are also eligible to apply.
- There is no upper age limit for appearing for the Course. In addition to complying with the eligibility as mentioned above, selection will be based on the merit in the entrance examination coupled with personal interview conducted by the University.
TEACHING PEDAGOGY
The pedagogy of the LL.M. Programme in Corporate Laws and Management is designed to ensure a rigorous, immersive, and practice-oriented learning experience. The programme adopts an integrated teaching model that brings together experienced academicians, senior practitioners, policy experts, and industry professionals, thereby bridging the gap between doctrinal legal knowledge and real-world corporate and A diverse range of teaching and teaming methods will be employed, including interactive lectures, case study analysis, problem-based learning, simulations, drafting exercises, regulatory compliance workshops, group discussions, seminars, and practitioner-led sessions. Emphasis will be placed on developing analytical skills, strategic thinking, and practical competencies essential for contemporary corporate legal practice.
In addition, specialised and customised training modules will be conducted by the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), in collaboration with NLUJA, Assam, focusing on emerging areas of corporate governance, regulatory compliance, sustainability, ESG frameworks, and policy implementation. These modules will provide participants with direct exposure to institutional practices, regulatory perspectives, and industry expectations.
The pedagogy is thus structured to equip students with a nuanced understanding of corporate laws and management, while fostering professional competence, ethical responsibility, and leadership readiness in an increasingly complex corporate and governance environment
