Dr. Gurjeet Singh Memorial National Moot Court Competition

The competition is organised in memory of our beloved Founder- Vice Chancellor, Late Prof (Dr.) Gurjeet Singh who left for his heavenly abode on the 1st of April, 2017, out of indebtedness for his contribution and to symbolically immortalise his legacy in the annals of National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam.

 

4th Dr. Gurjeet Singh Memorial National Moot Court Competition

We are delighted to organize this competition in collaboration with, The Chambers of Abhinav Mishra, Advocates, and Solicitors, established in 2018, which is the most prominent litigation chambers dealing with matters ranging from Corporate Compliances, Insolvency & Bankruptcy, Mergers & Acquisitions, Company Law to Real Estate and Civil Litigations.

The moot problem for this edition is based on constitutional principles vis-à-vis telecom laws and allied aspects. It is drafted under the aegis of Rahul Unnikrishnan and Gayatri T, Advocates (Madras High Court) in association with the learned team of Chambers of Abhinav Mishra. The Competition is open to all students, enrolled bona-fide on a regular basis in an undergraduate law course conducted by any recognized Institution/College/University.

3RD Dr. Gurjeet Singh Memorial National Moot Court Competition

After two years of uncertainty at the behest of the mortal pandemic, the Moot Court Committee of National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam ensued with the 3rd edition of its flagship moot Gurjeet Singh Memorial National Moot Court Competition in the virtual mode scheduled from the 25th to the 27th of March, 2022. The preparations for the event began long back where the entire Organizing Committee invested themselves in the process of executing the blueprint of the much anticipated competition under the patronage of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) VK Ahuja. The entire student fraternity along with faculty heads and the administrative officials poured their hearts and souls to make this event a reality. The Moot problem revolved around the nuances of Constitutional Law clubbed with the much contended provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967 and Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002.

The event started with an enthusiastic opening ceremony where Vice Chancellor of the host university Professor Dr. VK Ahuja and Registrar Dr. Indranoshee Das, boosted the moral of all the participating teams. With a head start of 22 strong teams, the participants had the golden opportunity to argue before some of the most learned legal minds which definitely taught them imperative skills needed in the spectrum of this profession. The finale rounds of the competition was fiercely fought between Maharashtra National Law University Nagpur and University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University where the former emerged victorious.

The rounds were presided over by the very renowned judges of the Guwahati High Court namely Justice Manish Chaudhari, Jusitice N. Kotishwar Singh and Justice Rumi Kumari Phukan who with their legal knowledge posed series of questions to the finalists who in turn maintained their calmness while answering the same. The competition ended with a promising valedictory ceremony congratulating the winners and all the participants for their efforts where the occasion was graced by the Hon’ble Judges, Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) VK Ahuja and other members of the NLUJAA fraternity.

2nd Dr. Gurjeet Singh Memorial National Moot Court Competition

Named after the founding Vice-Chancellor of the University, this moot court competition has been the flagship event of the University witnessing participation from all over the country. The event was held from 20th to 22nd April, 2018. The Chief Guest of the opening ceremony was the son of Late Dr. Gurjeet Singh, Mr. Manveen Singh now Assistant Professor at Jindal Global Law School. The competition witnessed a huge turnout of 26 teams out of which 6 were National Law Schools from around the country. The Tournament was won by UILS, Punjab after a hard fight in the finals from Law College, Dehradun.
