ABOUT NLU ASSAM

The National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam (NLUJAA) has been established by the Government of Assam by way of enactment of the National Law School and Judicial Academy, Assam Act, 2009 (Assam Act No. XXV of 2009). The word 'School' is being substituted by the word 'University' as per the National Law School and Judicial Academy, Assam(Amendment) Act, 2011. The Hon'ble Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court is the Chancellor of the University. NLUA promotes and makes available modern legal education and research facilities to students and scholars drawn from across the country, including the North East, hailing from different socio-economic, ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds.

The lecture covered a wide array of environmental issues in North-East India and its relationship with developmental aspects. Dr. Chatterjee also highlighted the crucial role of NGT in delivering environmental justice in India.

  • National Conference on Plantations Labour Act 1951 was organised in collaboration with Government of Assam, UNICEF, Office for Assam and Ethical Tea Partnership (ETP) at Administrative Staff College, Khanapara, Guwahati on November 14-15, 2015.
  • First volume of GREEN ADVOCATE (Center for Environmental Law, Advocacy and Research) was released on November 14, 2015 by Prof. (Dr.) Mool Chand Sharma, former Vice-Chancellor of National Law Institute University, Bhopal, founding Vice-Chancellor of Central University of Haryana and former Member of Law Commission of India, New Delhi.
  • Mr. Shashank Pathak was awarded the Best Researcher Award at the 2nd IIT Kharagpur National Moot Court Competition held on November 8, 2015 organised by Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law (RGSOIPL), IIT Kharagpur.

  • National Law University, Assam signed a MoU with National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru on October 16, 2015 which forges a partnership between the two institutions of excellence for Academic Collaboration.
  • NLU, Assam team consisting of Mr. Subornadeep Bhattacharjee, Mr. Utkarsh Kumar (3rd Year) and Khushboo Vasandani (2nd Year) emerged as the Winner at the 4th International Banking and Investment Law (IBAIL) Moot Court Competition 2015 on October 9-11, 2015 organized by Seedling School of Law and Governance, Jaipur National University in Jaipur, Rajasthan.

  • Mr. Rajesh Harlalka, 3rd Year and Ms. Filzah Belal, 1st Year took part in the IIT Guwahati Model United Nations Conference held from September 4 - 6, 2015 and delebrated on “Privatisation of War: Formulating Protocols for Hiring PMCs”. Ms. Filzah Belal won a High Commendation and Mr. Rajesh Harlalka won a Special Mention at the Conference.
