Course Design

The Law School intends to follow the Education Rules in Part IV of the Bar Council Rules under the Advocates Act, 1961 as provided in the Schedules in so far as maintaining the standards of Legal education is concerned in the Institution and strive for establishing and maintaining an Institution of Excellence.

The Academy may offer courses in Faculty of Law, Faculty of Social Science and Language. However, the Academy will initially introduce one stream of study, namely Arts, which shall be integrated with legal courses leading to the award of B.A.LL.B.(Hons.) over a period of five years as prescribed under the Rules of the Bar Council of India.

The teaching faculty in each course/subject as well as in Court Room exercise, tutorials, and other forms of teaching-learning process shall maintain the records of attendance as well as records of performance in the regular and continuous evaluation which must be periodically informed to the participating students.

Minimum standard of attendance as may be stipulated by the Faculty from time to time, shall be maintained by the students in order to take the end of semester final test in each course/subject, provided however such a standard shall not be less than what is required under the Education Rules of the Bar Council as prescribed from time to time.

Under-Graduate Courses

NLUJA offers B.A.,LL.B.(Hons.) Five Years Integrated Programme whereunder Social Sciences subjects like Economics, English, History, Political Science, Psychology, Public Administration and Sociology are integrated with law subjects in the first two years of study. However, from third year, the course curriculum primarily comprises of law subjects. All subjects are compulsory in the first three years of study. However, in the fourth and fifth years, students are offered optional subjects in the form of five different streams, namely, Business and Intellectual Property Law; Constitutional Law and Administrative Law; Consumer Protection and Environmental Law; Criminal Law and Criminology; and International Law and Human Rights.

NLUJA follows the Semester System. The entire Five-Year Course is divided into ten semesters, that is, there are two semesters in each academic year. The teaching methodology includes extensive and intensive class room teaching. Emphasis is laid on participative and interactive method of teaching and learning. The Course includes classroom assignments, seminars and project work relating to each subject. The University follows a multi-disciplinary and a wholesome approach in teaching and research. Each student is given and individual attention thereby enabling them as well as facilitating them to choose the subjects/options of their choice that could later help them in planning for their future career.
